Unearthing the History and Experiences of Blacks in Archaeology
Oral History Project
“To accept one’s past – one’s history – is not the same thing as drowning in it; it is learning how to use it. An invented past can never be used; it cracks and crumbles under the pressures of life like clay in a season of drought.”
– James Baldwin, The Fire Next Time
One of the goals of SBA is to capture and highlight the history of Blacks in the field of archaeology. To achieve this we intend to collect and archive oral history interviews of Blacks in the field to gain a better understanding of the roles and experiences Blacks have had in the past and present.
